Often positioned at roadsides or entrances, totem and monoliths are a high impact signage solution. Heights can range from 3m to 15m with most signs generally constructed utilising an internal frame made of mild steel, or using aluminium posts with an aluminium casing. These are mounted onto a ‘root cage’ set into a specifically calculated concrete footing. Depending on the size, the final structure may require the use of a crane to lift and position it accurately and safely. Illumination can be added internally or externally to the structure to give maximum, 24/7 exposure.
As with most large scale and/or illuminated signs, planning permission under ‘advertisement consent’ will usually be required and can take up to 10 weeks to process. Consideration must also be given to site access and the time required for groundworks and logistics.
Totems are tall column structures, often seen in shopping centres or petrol forecourts, that have now become popular for business premises, office complexes, trading estates and retail parks. Their physical size and double-sided nature attracts attention from a wide area. Not only ideal for individual company identification, monolith and totem signs confirm that visitors have arrived at your site, and project a professional image of your business and are an integral component in a truly comprehensive wayfinding programme. Using a series of panels, McRobb can give a visual directory of the attractions or facilities available on a particular site.
